The certification aims to equip database associates or any user of the products in DB2 family with knowledge on the DB2 fundamental concepts through either informal or formal education or through hands-on experience. This database associate will be knowledgeable in basic and intermediate tasks that are required in the day-to-day administration. He or she will also have knowledge in basic SQL and understand how to package and install DB2 9, be able to create database objects and databases and the transaction isolation.
Who can do this Certification?
This certification is best designed for end-users, application designers, system administrators, programmers and database administrators lacking knowledge of SQL DML (Data Manipulation Language). Also experienced application programmers, SQL end users, user support staff and database administrators needing more advanced SQL knowledge can do the certification.
This developer will become experienced in advanced level or intermediate skills in development of stored procedures found in the DB2 triggers & user functions.
To attain this certification, an individual is required to pass 2 tests. The 1st test is: C2090-700: DB2 V8.1 Family Fundamentals test or C2090-730: DB2 9 Family Fundamentals test. After passing any of the above tests which makes the second step in the certification path, you are now eligible to take the second test which makes up the third step in the certification path. This test is called the C2090-735: DB2 9.5 SQL Procedure Developer test.
It is recommended that for individuals preparing to take this certification to have DB2 SQL Procedural language skills & in tools related. It is advisable to take any of the following coursesDB2 fundamentals, SQL workshop or DB2 SQL workshop for experienced users or other approved courses. The C2090-730: DB2 9 Family Fundamentals test
This exam covers six main topics which are:
- Planning (14%)
- How to work with Database Objects and Databases (covers 17%)
- Using SQL to work with the DB2 Data. (23.5%)
- Security (11%)
- Data Concurrency (covers 11%)
- How to work with DB2 views, indexes and tables (23.5%)
This test is for a duration of 90 minutes. The number of multiple choice questions contained in this test is 64. The candidate sitting for the exam is required to attain a minimum of 59% of all the questions in the test, otherwise he or she will be considered to have failed the test.
The C2090-735: DB2 9.5 SQL Procedure Developer test.
This exam covers six main topics which are:
- Procedural Language in SQL (30%)
- Procedures in DB2 SQL (26%)
- Functions (16%)
- Triggers (10%)
- Advanced Features of SQL (12%)
This test is for a duration of ninety minutes. The number of multiple choice questions contained in this test is 64. The candidate sitting for the exam is required to attain a minimum of 69% of all the questions provided in the exam, otherwise he will be considered to have failed the test.
These two tests require skills in all the SQL environments ranging from z/OS, iSeries, VM/VSE, Linux, Windows and UNIX. The candidate should have a knowhow on writing, supporting and understanding SQL series.
Validity Period of this certification
The IBM Certification does not require renewal. Its validity is life-long.

This certification takes into account four steps which are below outlined:
- Training: Do any recommended course
- Exam: either C2090-700: DB2 V8.1 Family Fundamentals test or C2090-730: DB2 9 Family Fundamentals test.
- Exam: The C2090-735: DB2 9.5 SQL Procedure Developer test.
- Form: Complete the appropriate form
It is not a must for steps to be performed in the same listing order but the course submission form should be completed after successfully passing through the other 3 steps.
