Describe Network resources for implementing EIGRP in a network

Exam: Cisco 642-902 - Implementing Cisco IP Routing (ROUTE v1.0)

Since routing is the soul of any network, a network administrator must know the pre-requisites for implementing routing in a network. No proper considerations in designing routing can lead to network outages. In this article we will be discussing the pre-requisites and the implementation plan for EIGRP in a network.

Following pre-requisites must be included in theimplementation plan for implementing EIGRP in a network.

  1. Updated Network diagram
  2. IP addressing scheme
  3. Network topology including the type of links, bandwidth associated with each and their utilization.
  4. List of routers to be included in EIGRP process
  5. Autonomous number to be used for the EIGRP on all routers.
  6. Networks to be included in EIGRP.
  7. Interface to be excluded from EIGRP.
  8. Boundaries for EIGRP
  9. Redistribution of any other routing protocol or static routes.
  10. Any distribute lists to be implemented and their direction i.e. ingress or egress.
  11. Routes to be exchanged
  12. Route Summarization points if required.
  13. Deciding the Stub areas if required.
  14. If EIGRP authentication to be used. Its type and key.
  15. If any path to be preferred other than the default successor route by EIGRP.
  16. If load balancing is required or not.
  17. If any non default distance to be configured or not.
