Certifications

The certification program is carefully designed and divided into 3 main categories to prove the expertise of candidates on multiple levels.

     – EssentialsAccreditation Track

This category is represented by one designation known as LPI Linux Essentials that validates the fundamental knowledge regarding the process of using a desktop or mobile device through a Linux Operating System.

This program has been specially designed for the youths and individuals who are a novice to Linux and Open Source technology. It provides candidates with the opportunity to demonstrate their confident knowledge of basic concepts as regards Linux Operating System, computer hardware, Open Source Applications, navigation systems on a Linux Desktop, etc. It will be enough to pass the 010-160 exam online or at the nearest VUE testing office to get this certificate without an expiration date.

     – Linux Professional Accreditation Track

The Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPIC) program certifies the systems administrators possessing the expertise in the Linux operating system and appropriate tools. The structure of this multi-level qualification path has been divided into the basic level certification (LPIC-1), intermediate level certification (LPIC-2), and advanced level certifications (LPIC-3). The first one verifies your skills to complete tasks related to configuring basic networking and configuring a computer that runs Linux. The LPIC-2 certification can be obtained after earning the LPIC-1 designation. This certification proves your skills to administer both small and medium-sized mixed networks. LPIC-3 includes 3 certifications:

– Mixed Environments (checks your skills to apply Linux services in an enterprise-wide mixed environment);

– Security (testifies your ability to harden and secure Linux-based services, servers, and networks enterprise-wide).

– Virtualization and High Availability ( is all about using Linux-based technologies used to apply enterprise-wide virtualization and HA setups).

As you understand it, you need to get a lower-level certificate in order to pass the next level of the LPIC accreditation journey. Also, keep in mind that each professional qualification you receive is valid for 5 years.

     – Open Technology Accreditation Track

The Open Technology professional qualification pathway is designed to confirm candidates' expertise in using various open technology tools, including BSD Specialist and DevOps tools.

Therefore, two designations are available to interested professionals. The first is the LPI DevOps Tools Engineer certificate designed for specialists in various DevOps-related areas that include architecture, machine deployment, configuration management as well as monitoring process.

At the same time, the second option is the LPI BSD Specialist accreditation, which will benefit people with advanced skills in the NetBSD, OpenBSD, or FreeBSD environments, as well as advanced knowledge of BSD operating systems administration.

Each Open Technology certificate involves passing one accreditation exam, which has no prerequisites. While the qualification obtained is also valid for 5 years.
