What is the purpose of the SSAT?
Students in the private, elementary, middle or high schools have to take up the test conducted by the Secondary School Admission Test Board - SSATB in the form of Secondary School Admission Test. - SSAT. This test helps the students to make their decision regarding their admissions. For SSAT exam, a student has to take up three test levels - the elementary level for 3rd and 4th grade students applying for the subsequent grades. The middle level for the 5th, 6th and 7th grade students applying for the 6th, 7th and 8th grades and the upper level for the 8th , 9th, 10th and 11th grade students who want to apply for the higher 9th , 10th, 11th and 12th grade. This test comprises of multiple choice questions and includes other categories like QT, verbal questions and reading comprehension. The Independent schools all over the world conduct this test which has to be written in English language only. With this score the students can apply to any school they want by enrolling for the same.
On the outset the SSAT is misnomer which is rather redundant; the SSAT is the admission test that is to taken up by the pupil who is in the grade 5 to 11 level. This exam is taken up to prove or to establish their assignment in to private or autonomous high school or junior high schools. There are two levels in this type of SSAT test, the first one or the lower one is for the students who are in the grade of 5 to 7 level and the second or the upper is the one that is for the pupil who are in the grade of 8 to 11 level. The SSAT actually is administered as two divisions - the multiple choice type section which will include segments like verbal, mathematics and reading comprehension and the other one is the essay type segment. As like the other tests, this SSAT is not an easy test and the students are judged by this result. When many students write this test the schools will not accept all the students who pass the exam but will take up only the cream part of the crop which means that only students who have excelled or topped in the exam with outstanding marks will be considered for admission into the next stage of education. Thus a mere pass in SSAT is not enough to get a seat but getting an outstanding grade is required
All the segments in the SSAT carry equal value and the final scores are given to the students based upon the final tallying of the various correctly answered questions. As like the competitive exams there is a negative marking and so one wrong answer will mean minus quarter mark from the total. Any unanswered questions are not valued and hence no negative mark is granted for that. The final score of the SSAT is given to the applicant along with their relative projected grades when they finish their final high school. This SSAT is of great importance in the career of a student as this grade will help them in the various other big tests like the SAT.
Just as stated above merely passing the SSAT - secondary school admission test will not be enough to enter into the next level of education, the key over here is excellence and if the student show their excellence in this test they will prove to be lucky and they can focus on their career in the right direction. This SSAT is the gateway to enter into the prestigious educational high level schools and so to become eligible the student has to work hard and prepare well for the classes and end up getting high grade in the test. If needed the student can even take up the preparatory class for excelling in this test and this will help them to get good score in the SSAT.
